Manchester City defender Kyle Walker is reportedly keen on a return to Sheffield United, 15 years after departing clubs, over lucrative moves to Saudi Arabia or MLS.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has been linked with a sensational move back to his boyhood club Sheffield United.

The England international left the Blades back in 2009 to join Tottenham Hotspur, but spent another season back on loan at his local club.

After 229 appearances for Spurs, Walker moved to Man City for £50m in 2017, and has gone on to have an illustrious career, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and the Champions League.

Walker has also made 93 appearances for England, being a regular in the side that reached two Euro finals under Gareth Southgate.

Walker on the move this summer?

However, all good things must come to an end, and with Walker now 34, rumours suggest his time at the Etihad could be coming to a close.

Since returning from injury at the start of November, Walker has started four of Man City's seven games, and also featured twice for England, but that has not stopped suggestions he could be moved on.

talkSPORT claim that while Walker will receive lucrative offers from abroad, his dream to finish his career back in his hometown could be a deciding factor.

Walker has spoken in the past about wanting to return to Bramall Lane, and with the club flying high in the Championship, winning promotion this season could see them pull the transfer off.

The report further states that City are keen to regenerate their ageing squad, and Walker will be one of the players they look to move on, despite him having a contract that runs until 2026.

Could Walker still be a Premier League player next season?

Despite currently being in the Championship, Sheffield United could still offer Walker Premier League football next season if they can keep up their excellent start to the campaign.

The Blades remain top of the second tier under Chris Wilder, despite having two points deducted early in the campaign for financial irregularities, and are two points ahead of Burnley.

With offers expected from MLS and the Saudi Pro League though, Walker may have his head turned by some of the offers that could come his way from those two avenues.

Former Man City team mate Aymeric Laporte is one of the many players who have moved to Saudi Arabia since their sudden influence in the transfer market which started at the start of 2023.

Joao Cancelo also made the move this summer, after slightly underwhelming loan spells with Bayern Munich and Barcelona, following a falling out with Pep Guardiola.
