Middlesbrough have completed the permanent signing of Micah Hamilton from Manchester City.

The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract and moves to the Riverside Stadium for an initial fee believed to be around £2m which could rise to £5m with add-ons.

Man City are also understood to have retained matching rights in the agreement, as well as inserted an £11m buy-back clause and a 25% sell-on clause into the highly-rated winger's deal

Michael Carrick, a former Manchester United man in his playing days, has swooped for Citizens prodigy Hamilton, who becomes Middlesbrough's fourth senior signing of the summer after Luke Ayling, Aidan Morris and Delano Burgzorg.

"Micah is an exciting young player who we're looking forward to working with," Carrick told Boro's official website.

"He's already been in and around the senior side at Man City - he's got that experience from playing in the Champions League - and he is another great addition to the squad."

Hamilton joins Middlesbrough after impressive Man City rise

Hamilton joined Man City at Under-Nine level and gradually worked his way through the club's youth ranks before becoming an integral figure for both the Under-18s and Elite Development Squad as they claimed a hat-trick of national titles in as many years.

Comfortable operating out wide or in a central attacking role, Hamilton's development was recognised by the Citizens, who named the youngster their EDS captain ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Hamilton was quickly promoted to Pep Guardiola's senior team and was handed his first-team debut in Man City's final Champions League group-stage fixture away to Red Star Belgrade, scoring a superb goal after just 19 minutes in a 3-2 victory.

The Manchester-born attacker also gained first-team minutes as a substitute in City's 5-0 FA Cup third-round win over Huddersfield Town, before another Champions League outing in March against Copenhagen in the last 16.

Hamilton was part of the Citizens squad on their pre-season tour of the United States earlier this summer, but he has now made the decision to further his career by joining Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

The youngster, who will wear the No.17 shirt, trained with his new teammates for the first time on Friday morning, but it remains to be seen whether he will be available to make his debut in Boro's opening league game against Swansea City on Saturday.
