Manchester City have completed their preparations for the new Premier League campaign by beating West Ham United 3-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Laugardalsvollur Stadium in Reykjavik, Iceland this afternoon.

Gabriel Jesus broke the deadlock after just eight minutes for City, and second-half goals from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling completed a convincing victory for Pep Guardiola's side.

City have now won each of their last three matches by a three-goal margin - against Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham - whereas the Hammers complete their pre-season having won only one of their six outings.

For what was the first match between two Premier League sides to ever be played on Icelandic soil, West Ham named both Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta in the starting lineup to face their former club, but the defensive duo could do nothing to prevent City from taking the lead after just eight minutes.

The Hammers tried to play out from the back, but Danilo nipped in to steal the ball in an advanced position and Kevin De Bruyne then delivered the killer pass for Jesus to stroke home at the far post.

It was one-way traffic for the majority of the first half and City almost doubled their advantage after 14 minutes when David Silva's pass found Aguero in the box, only for the Argentine to see his effort parried behind by Hart.

Jesus was the next to threaten as De Bruyne's pass went all the way through to the Brazilian, who levered Angelo Ogbonna off the ball but was quickly thwarted by Hart.

Danilo's touch then let him down after a clever quick free kick from Yaya Toure before West Ham finally had their first sight of goal shortly before the half-hour mark, when Toni Martinez's header from Zabaleta's cross went over the bar.

City were soon back on the front foot, though, and Leroy Sane flashed one effort narrowly past the far post before Hart was called into action again to shovel Danilo's effort from a tight angle behind.

West Ham's summer signing Javier Hernandez was among the players introduced at half time, and the former Manchester United striker played a part in the Hammers' first shot on target of the match nine minutes after the restart when he released Edimilson Fernandes, whose low drive forced a save from Ederson.

City burst into life to double their lead just two minutes later, though, as a slick one-touch move saw Sane and Silva combine to set up Aguero, who applied a first-time finish from inside the area.

It was almost two in an as many minutes for City when the ball fell kindly for Jesus on the edge of the box following a corner, but the Brazilian did not catch his effort right and dragged it wide of the target.

Guardiola then made seven changes to his side, including a debut for Bernardo Silva, but it was his namesake David Silva who was the next to come close when Hart got the faintest fingertip to a low drive across the face of goal.

West Ham lost summer signing Marko Arnautovic to injury just past the hour mark, and their misery was further compounded when City added a third goal through Sterling, who fired his finish past Hart after a deflected effort from Phil Foden had fallen kindly into his path.

It made for another convincing scoreline for City, who hit 12 goals past West Ham in three meetings last season, and it could have been worse for Slaven Bilic's side when Sterling almost doubled his personal tally with a header at the back post.

The Hammers had to wait until the 79th minute for their first clear chance of the contest when Hernandez raced through on goal down the left channel, but he overran the ball and neither he nor Robert Snodgrass could get a shot away with Ederson scrambling.

City comfortably saw out the game to end their pre-season schedule on a high, and they will now look ahead to next Saturday when they get their Premier League campaign underway against newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham, meanwhile, face more Manchester opposition on the opening weekend of the season as they travel to Old Trafford on Sunday for their first game of the campaign.
