Manchester City see off Hearts

Aleksandar Kolarov scores a late penalty to give Manchester City a 2-1 win in their pre-season friendly against Hearts.

Manchester City have continued their preparations for the new season by beating Hearts 2-1 at Tynecastle this evening.

The visitors had a chance to take the lead inside the opening five minutes when Jesus Navas picked out Samir Nasri in the box, but his effort was kept out by Neil Alexander.

Hearts then created an opportunity of their own through Kevin McHattie, who saw his long-range effort deflect wide, before Dale Carrick's strike from the edge of the box was saved by Richard Wright.

Midway through the half, the Premier League champions made the breakthrough, as Scott Sinclair raced onto Alvaro Negredo's through-ball before slotting into the net.

The home side pushed for a response and they equalised in the 56th minute. Osman Sow was played into the box by Carrick and he made no mistake with a composed finish past Willy Caballero.

City looked to restore their lead and they went ahead with 10 minutes of the match left. They were awarded a penalty when Callum Paterson fouled Emyr Huws inside the box, and Aleksandar Kolarov stepped up to place the ball into the bottom corner.

It proved to be the final chance of the match as City held on to end their tour of Scotland with a victory.
