Jay Rodriguez is confident that Southampton can stay in the Premier League.

Recent Southampton signing Jay Rodriguez is confident that his new club can stay in the Premier League and insists that he has joined an ambitious side.

Southampton were promoted back to the Premier League last season having been out of the top flight since 2005, and Rodriguez sees no reason why the club should go straight back down.

"It is going to be an exciting year," Rodriguez told the Daily Star. We want to show we can do it in the Premier League.

"Southampton have got ambition. We showed that to get back in the Premier League and I do not see them dropping out of it again."

Southampton's first Premier League fixture is against Manchester City at the Etihad.
