Manuel Pellegrini hails "important win"

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hails an "important win" after their 3-1 victory against West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has hailed an "important win" after their 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day.

City achieved the result without a recognised striker for a second game running, and Pellegrini explained how the side have changed their approach since the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic became injured.

"It was a very important win because it's not easy to play on Boxing Day," he told Sky Sports News. "We have three games and nine points [to play for] in just a week so it is tough, but good to start this week with a win against a good team like West Brom.

"We're doing well, and we have changed the style of play to allow more midfielders to get into the box and we are creating space and using it in the right moments.

"It was difficult to play because of the snow, but it is difficult to play with the fast pace and we tried to keep it [at 3-0] but they scored. We are just trying to keep winning, we are not thinking about Chelsea. It is not just us and Chelsea, there are other teams there too like Manchester United."

City host Burnley on Sunday.
