Manuel Pellegrini rules out taking over Chile

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini rules out the possibility of succeeding Jorge Sampaoli as coach of Chile.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out the possibility of becoming the next Chile coach following the exit of Jorge Sampaoli earlier today.

Sampaoli was involved in a dispute with the new chairman of Chile's football association Arturo Salah, which resulted in the Copa America-winning coach effectively paying to be released from his role.

Pellegrini is widely expected to leave Man City at the end of the season due to the anticipated arrival of Pep Guardiola, but the Chilean revealed that he is still planning to spend the foreseeable future in Europe.

"I hope to remain with competitive teams in Europe, I am not thinking about returning to Chile at least for the next three or four years," Pellegrini said in comments attributed to Radio Cooperativa.

"There is no chance I would coach over the next couple of years. Arturo has my full support for all that is needed. But being in charge of the national team is not something I would like to do at this time."

Pellegrini's City side are currently still in all four competitions this season.
