Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will take his squad to a training camp in Catalonia just hours after the opening Premier League game of the season.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will take his squad to a training camp in Spain immediately after their first Premier League match of the season.

City begin their campaign away to newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion on August 12, and they will jet off to Catalonia shortly after the final whistle to give Guardiola more time with his players.

The trip will also see City face La Liga new boys Girona, who have taken four players on loan from the Etihad Stadium within the last 24 hours.

"This trip is a great opportunity for Pep to work with his full squad in an intensive training camp," director of football Txiki Begiristain told the club's official website.

"We have had some players away on international duty this summer, which means Pep hasn't had the chance to work for long with the whole squad.

"The game itself promises to be a fantastic spectacle, as Girona finalise their own preparations for their debut campaign in La Liga."

City's owners are understood to be closing in on a deal to add Girona to their City Football Group network.
