Former Manchester City midfielder Steve Lomas has hailed the arrival of Wilfried Bony as "a fantastic signing".
The champions confirmed the transfer of the powerful striker on Wednesday for a reported fee of around £28m from Swansea City.
Lomas told talkSPORT: "Bony is a fantastic signing. I think they gambled a bit when they let [Alvaro] Negredo go at the start of the season but I think they looked at the [Sergio] Aguero injury situation and [Edin] Dzeko hasn't really produced the type of form he found last year when he stepped in for Aguero.
"When Sergio is out, I think they have realised they need a ready-made replacement and Wilfried Bony has scored in this league and I think he has a hunger about him. He wants to win trophies and I think it is an excellent signing.
"With the squad of players they have at City, there is no reason why Manchester City can't win the Champions League."
Bony is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.
