Everton manager Ronald Koeman hails Pep Guardiola's Manchester City as the best team that he has come up against in his managerial career.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has described Manchester City as the best team that he has faced during his managerial career.

The Dutchman came up against his former Barcelona teammate Pep Guardiola for the first time at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon and left with a point following a 1-1 draw.

Everton spent the vast majority of the match on the back foot, though, and needed to survive two penalties that were both saved by Maarten Stekelenburg.

"They played fantastic football. They are the best team in my managerial career that I've played against. Really high, top pressing, high tempo... we made some mistakes because the pressing was so high," he told reporters.

"If you look to the football, to the offensive style, the movement, the quality of the offensive players, they are in my opinion the best team in the Premier League. I'm pleased with a point and we didn't deserve more, I know. Maybe we didn't deserve one when you count the chances and the opportunities, two missed penalties. But football is unpredictable.

"Maybe the goalkeeper played his best game ever. We know he is a good goalkeeper but saving two penalties and maybe two more shots from [Kevin] De Bruyne... you need that luck to get a good result."

City had won all five of their home matches under Guardiola before today's game.
