Pep Guardiola refuses to commit long-term future to Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola suggests that he is in no hurry to sign a new contract, despite entering the final 12 months of his existing deal.

Pep Guardiola has insisted that he is not worried about his Manchester City contract situation as he still has a year left to run on his current deal.

The 47-year-old has won a Premier League and EFL Cup double in his second season at the Etihad Stadium, following on from a trophyless maiden campaign in English football.

Guardiola is soon to enter the final 12 months of the contract signed when arriving at the club from Bayern Munich in 2016, but Citizens chiefs were said to be confident of agreeing fresh terms once the title had been wrapped up.

Asked for an update on any behind-the-scenes talks with City's hierarchy, however, the Catalan coach suggested that he is in no hurry to put pen to paper.

"I have one more year - and next year I will be here," he told reporters. "Now it's time to finish well and then start to talk about what we have to do next season, who is staying and who we have to buy.

"I'm not finishing in two weeks or one month - I have one more year. In football one more year is a lot and we're going to talk to the club.

"They are friends of mine – Ferran [Soriano], Txiki [Begiristain] and Khaldoon [Al Mubarak] – and we have time to talk fluently about what is best for the club and us."

Guardiola has previously managed Barcelona for four years and Bayern for three years.
