Fernandinho: 'Leroy Sane could achieve highest level for club and country'

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is confident that teammate Leroy Sane has the ability to become one of the best players in Europe.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has claimed that teammate Leroy Sane has the ability to become one of the best players in Europe.

The Germany international scored a brace against West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Cup before adding a fine opener and two assists in the 5-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old, who has five goals in his last five appearances for Man City, was making just his second start in the league this season.

"We all knew Leroy was a great talent from last season," Fernandinho told the official Man City site. "Last year he showed that and this year he is showing it again.

"In football it is difficult to know what will happen. We hope he can achieve the highest level possible for City and his national team.

"He is young, he has shown his quality. I am happy he is happy. Everyone is happy and I hope he can keep this level as long as possible and keep getting better."

Pep Guardiola admitted following Saturday's win at the Etihad Stadium that Sane was not initially in his plans following a poor pre-season for City.
