Juventus have claimed a 1-0 victory over Manchester City to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal of the match with a composed finish from Alex Sandro's left-wing cross.

Sergio Aguero, Fernando and Raheem Sterling all had chances to equalise for the Citizens, but they were unable to find the net as they slipped to a second defeat in four days.

Goal

Gianluigi Buffon: Showed his class by making an important block from Aguero just before the break, before clawing a Fernando header onto the post in the second half. (8/10)

Defence

Giorgio Chiellini: Did not look at his very best and gave the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions, but was never caught out of position all evening. (6/10)

Andrea Barzagli: Assured performance from the veteran defender, who marshalled the defence well and kept a close eye on Aguero throughout. (7/10)

Leonardo Bonucci: Brought back into the defence from the start and produced a strong performance to keep Aguero quiet for large spells. (7/10)

Midfield

Stephan Lichtsteiner: Got forward well down the right and almost grabbed a second for Juventus at the end of the first half, but was given a few problems by City in the opening minutes of the game. (6/10)

Claudio Marchisio: Although he gave away a poor back pass that was almost punished by Aguero, the Italian was generally good on the ball and worked hard for his team. (6/10)

Stefano Sturaro: Came close to scoring for Juventus in the second half when he met Morata's chipped ball at the back post, but from a couple of yards out he could only turn an effort onto the woodwork. (6/10)

Paul Pogba: Displayed his usual quality on the ball and rarely gave away possession, but was not able to impose himself on the game as much as he would have liked. (7/10)

Alex Sandro: Set up the winning goal for Mandzukic with a fine cross and always looked a danger for Juventus with his powerful runs down the left wing. (8/10)

Attack

Mario Mandzukic: Took his goal well and had a powerful volley saved by Hart, before he was forced off with an injury early in the second half. (7/10)

Paulo Dybala: The Argentine's direct running style and willingness to take on opponents caused a number of problems for City, who were forced into fouling him numerous times throughout the evening. (7/10)

Substitutes

Alvaro Morata: Was desperate to impress after coming off the bench and set up Sturaro to hit the post within a minute of his arrival, before coming close late on with a driving run through the City defence. (7/10)

Patrice Evra: Made his 100th appearance in the Champions League and showed his experience by helping Juventus to see out the game with a composed display. (6/10)

Juan Cuadrado: Brought on for the closing stages and almost wrapped up the points for Juventus with a volley that he flashed narrowly wide. (6/10)

Goal

Joe Hart: Had no chance for the opening goal, but made a string of fine saves to keep City in the game before he was replaced by Caballero late on. (8/10)

Defence

Bacary Sagna: Given a torrid evening by Sandro, who beat him for pace countless times during the evening, and failed to help his team going forward. (5/10)

Martin Demichelis: Defended reasonably well against the pace of Dybala and won a couple of vital headers against Mandzukic and Morata. (6/10)

Nicolas Otamendi: Shrugged off the ball far too easily by Mandzukic for the opening goal, while he looked off the pace for large periods of the evening. (5/10)

Gael Clichy: The Frenchman was not given too many problems down his flank by Lichtsteiner, but failed to offer an attacking threat for City. (6/10)

Midfield

Fernando: Came close to an equaliser for City when Buffon turned his header onto the post, but struggled to help his team control the midfield. (6/10)

Fernandinho: The Brazilian had a golden chance to give City the lead when he fired over unmarked from close range, and within minutes Juventus went up the other end and scored. (6/10)

Yaya Toure: Tried his best to inspire City and attempted a couple of strikes from long range that didn't cause any problems for Buffon. (6/10)

Attack

Kevin De Bruyne: The Belgian did not see as much of the ball as he would have wanted, but he almost set up Sterling for an equaliser in the final minutes with a powerful run and teasing cross from the right wing. (6/10)

Jesus Navas: Disappointing evening for the Spaniard, who created very little in the way of chances for his teammates, and was booked for kicking the ball away. (5/10)

Sergio Aguero: Had a great chance to score for City when he latched onto a wayward pass from Marchisio, but he was denied by Buffon, and was later replaced by Sterling midway through the second half. (6/10)

Substitutes

Fabian Delph: Came on for Fernandinho an hour into the match, but made little impact as Juventus continued to dominate the midfield. (6/10)

Raheem Sterling: Looked lively after coming on for City, but missed a huge opening when he was found inside the six-yard box by De Bruyne, only to turn his effort wide of the post. (6/10)

Willy Caballero: Was not forced into making any saves after replacing Hart for the final nine minutes. (6/10)
