Manuel Pellegrini not worried about Manchester City job

Manuel Pellegrini says that his future as Manchester City boss does not hinge on beating Roma and qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has refuted suggestions that he could be sacked if he fails to beat Roma and secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Sky Blues face the Italian giants in Rome tomorrow knowing that they must beat Rudi Garcia's side in order to progress from Group E.

Speculation is rife that Pellegrini - who led City to Premier League glory last season - could be axed if his troops bow out, but the Chilean says that his future does not hinge on victory at the Stadio Olimpico.

Asked if that was the case, the 61-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I don't think so. Tomorrow is a very important game and all of us want to qualify but I don't think that what happens will have some link about my future in the club.

"I have never received any kind of pressure from the club. I hope we are going to qualify but I have nothing to be [concerned] about my future here."

Failing to beat the Giallorossi would represent the Citizens' third group-stage exit from Europe's elite competition in four years.

Sergio Aguero, who has struck 19 goals in 21 City appearances this season, will not be present after picking up a knee injury in Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton.
