Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Manchester City, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record between the two clubs.

Real Madrid will be bidding to use home advantage to secure a positive result against Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

The two sides will lock horns in the Spanish capital for the first leg before meeting for the return match at the Etihad Stadium on May 17, with a spot in the final of the competition on offer.

Real Madrid - the holders of the European Cup - will enter this match off the back of a 2-1 victory over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, with Los Blancos winning the competition for the 20th time.

Man City, meanwhile, recorded a 2-1 win over Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday to move four points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table.

These two sides have locked horns on eight previous occasions - all in the Champions League - and both sides have won three times, while there have also been two draws.

Their first two meetings came in the group stage of the 2012-13 Champions League, with Real Madrid running out 3-2 winners at Bernabeu, before the points were shared in a 1-1 draw in Manchester.

Since then, all of their meetings have come in the knockout round of the Champions League; Real Madrid recorded a 1-0 aggregate victory when the two teams locked horns in the semi-finals of the 2015-16 competition, with the only goal of the contest coming at Bernabeu.

Man City were able to gain revenge during the 2019-20 competition, though, running out 2-1 winners home and away to progress to the quarter-finals at the Spanish club's expense.

These two teams also met in the semi-finals of last season's Champions League, and it proved to be an extraordinary two-legged tie, with Los Blancos ultimately triumphing 6-5 on aggregate.

Man City recorded a 4-3 victory in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, and they moved 5-3 ahead on aggregate when Riyad Mahrez netted in the 73rd minute of the second leg in Madrid.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's side launched an incredible late comeback, with Rodrygo scoring twice in the final moments to force extra-time, and Karim Benzema then won it from the penalty spot in the 95th minute.

The fact that the second leg of this season's tie is at the Etihad Stadium could hand Man City an advantage, but it is always difficult to back against Real Madrid in this competition, with Los Blancos lifting the trophy an incredible 14 times throughout history.
