Conference Premier roundup: Macclesfield Town stay in title hunt

Sports Mole rounds up Tuesday evening's action in the Conference Premier as Macclesfield Town beat Braintree Town to remain in the title hunt.

Macclesfield Town have moved to within six points of Conference Premier leaders Bristol Rovers with a 1-0 win away at Braintree Town.

Alex Grant's 38th-minute effort was enough to move his side into third spot and with a game in hand, the Silkmen will be hopeful of cutting the gap further on Rovers and second-placed Barnet.

Two second-half goals from John Goddard have helped Woking beat Dartford 3-1 to move six points behind the playoff places.

A 3-1 success for Gateshead over Wrexham has also kept them in with a chance of reaching the top five, with the North-East outfit now nine points adrift with four matches in hand.

At the bottom of the table, a late goal from Scott Kay has given Southport a 1-0 win over Halifax Town to help his side move three points above the drop zone.

The other result of the evening saw two goals from Jim Stevenson help Aldershot Town to a 3-1 triumph over Dover Athletic.

Results in full: Aldershot Town 3-1 Dover Athletic, Braintree Town 0-1 Macclesfield Town, Dartford 1-3 Woking, Gateshead 3-1 Wrexham, Southport 1-0 Halifax Town
