Lyon give up on Anthony Martial return

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas admits that he has no chance of signing back Anthony Martial on loan from Monaco in January.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has said that he has no hope of re-signing Anthony Martial.

The 18-year-old forward has been in impressive form in recent weeks, having replaced the injured Radamel Falcao in the starting lineup for Claudio Ranieri's side.

"I knew from another French club that Martial could have been loaned," Ligue1.com quotes him as saying. "But it happened before Falcao got injured.

"Then I called Monaco vice-chairman Vadim Vasyliev, who told me if there would be any opportunity he would tell me, but so far coach Claudio Ranieri doesn't want to let him go."

Martial joined Monaco from Lyon in June 2013.
