Half-Time Report: Luke Guttridge screamer separates Luton Town, Newport County

Luke Guttridge scores a screamer as Luton Town lead Newport County in the FA Cup first round.

Luke Guttridge's goal has given Luton Town the lead over Newport County in the FA Cup first round.

Guttridge smashed a left-footed shot into the top corner from outside of the box shortly before half time in a game full of chances.

Luton took control of the match at Kenilworth Road after a fast Newport start, and they started to create the better chances.

Michael Harriman lofted a shot over the bar when well placed, while Paul Benson missed a great chance to score his first goal of the season when he headed wide from six yards.

Guttridge clipped the bar from distance but Luton failed to find a breakthrough during a dominant five-minute spell.

Chris Zebroski should have done better for Newport when he ran through on goal but he sliced his shot high and wide, while Aaron O'Connor's ambitious overhead kick from six yards was saved before Guttridge broke the deadlock.
