Lorient stage comeback win

Goals from Vincent Aboubakar and Jeremie Aliadiere cancel out Olivier Veigneau's opener as Lorient come from behind to beat Nantes 2-1.

Goals from Vincent Aboubakar and Jeremie Aliadiere saw Lorient emerge as 2-1 victors in their Ligue 1 clash with Nantes.

Lorient, who lost 1-0 away to Lille on the opening weekend of the season, saw Aliadiere start up front despite speculation linking him with a move away from the club over the summer. Lamine Gassama missed the game through suspension following his sending off in the 1-0 loss.

Newly-promoted Nantes left summer signing Alejandro Bedoya on the bench, with Luka Djordjevic and Yohann Eudeline starting in attack following their 2-0 opening day victory over Bastia.

It was the away side who took the lead against the run of play when Olivier Veigneau sliced his 10th-minute cross fortuitously into the far corner.

Lorient continued to dominate possession but struggled to create any openings until Maxime Baca found Aboubakar lurking inside the penalty area. The Cameroonian had enough time to turn before slotting the ball beyond the reach of Remy Riou.

Aliadiere, who scored 19 goals in all competitions last season, almost gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half time, but Riou saved well from his glancing header.

Lorient picked up where they left off and continued to push their opponents back as the second half progressed.

Aliadiere won a free kick on the hour mark, which he duly curled around the wall and into the net to give his side the lead, although Riou would have been disappointed not to keep the effort out having got two hands to the ball.

The goalkeeper made amends for his mistake with a fine, low save to deny Aliadiere his second goal as the game entered the final five minutes.

With the home fans growing increasingly nervous, Nantes won a free kick in the fourth minute of added time.

Alejandro Bedoya reacted quickest as the ball dropped inside the area and the midfielder beat Benjamin Lecomte, only for Lamine Kone to made a magnificent sliding clearance to give his side a 2-1 victory.
