Aurelien Tchouameni 'turned down more lucrative PSG bid to join Real Madrid'

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly failed with a big-money offer in the race for Aurelien Tchouameni.

The France international has just enjoyed the best season of his career, helping Monaco earn third position in the Ligue 1 standings and gaining regular action with his national team.

Despite previous suggestions that he may continue his career at Stade Louis II, the 22-year-old ultimately opted to sign for Real Madrid last week.

Tchouameni has opted to pen a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, committing himself to the European champions for the peak years of his career.

However, according to Marca, the player had the opportunity to make a more lucrative switch to Ligue 1 champions PSG.

The report suggests that PSG were not always in the running for Tchouameni, instead making their approaches at a time when it became apparent that Real were the favourites.

PSG allegedly failed with an initial proposal before it was allegedly left to Kylian Mbappe to try to convince his compatriot to join him in the nation's capital.

However, that - and a follow-up offer said to be worth €12m (£10.2m) net per season - were turned down by Tchouameni, who accepted a lower offer from Real.

Marca adds that an official wage for the emerging talent has not officially been revealed, but the suggestion is that it is no more than €7m (£6m)

As well as PSG, Liverpool had also been strongly linked with Tchouameni before the player made a conclusive decision on his future.

In an interview with El Chiringuito earlier this week, Real president Florentino Perez acknowledged that both clubs had been attempting to beat them to Tchouameni's signature.

Perez said: "Someone told him (Tchouameni) he had to go at Paris Saint-Germain, yes. Mbappe was trying but this is normal.

"PSG and Liverpool wanted Tchouameni, it's normal to have competition. He only wanted Real Madrid."

Perez has also claimed that Real do currently not intend to follow the additions of Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger with any more signings this summer.
