Reading are reportedly ready to steal a march on Liverpool in the race for Thomas Ince by meeting Blackpool's asking price of £8m.
Liverpool have been in negotiations for their former winger for much of the January transfer window but have yet to agree a fee with the Seasiders, prompting Reading to make a late bid.
The Royals are desperate to add quality in attacking areas to help them beat the drop and Reading owner Anton Zingarevich will bankroll an offer for Ince, according to The People.
Ince left Liverpool for £250,000 in 2011 and the Reds remain confident that they can tie up a deal because they have a sell-on clause in place on the youngster.
The 20-year-old has been in fine form this season and scored twice yesterday to help Blackpool earn a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
