Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum reportedly wants a new four-year contract to stay on at Anfield, but the Reds are not prepared to offer him that long-term deal.

Liverpool are reportedly not prepared to hand Georginio Wijnaldum a new four-year deal amid speculation over the midfielder's future.

The former Newcastle United man is about to enter the final six months of his Anfield contract and appears to be no closer to penning an extension.

The 30-year-old will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards, and Barcelona have been strongly linked with the Netherlands international, who could reunite with current Blaugrana manager Ronald Koeman at Camp Nou.

According to The Express, Liverpool are attempting to negotiate a new deal with Wijnaldum, but the midfielder's demand for a four-year deal is proving to be a stumbling block.

Should Wijnaldum indeed head for the Anfield exit door, Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified Lille midfielder Renato Sanches as an ideal replacement for the Dutchman.

Despite his uncertain future, Wijnaldum has remained a key player for Liverpool this term, chalking up 19 appearances and a solitary goal in all competitions.
