Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay half of Mamadou Sakho's £100,000-a-week wages to get rid of the defender during the January transfer window.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay half of Mamadou Sakho's £100,000-a-week wages in order to move the defender on during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has suffered a remarkable fall from grace in recent months, failing a drugs test that was later overturned and being frozen out by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for disciplinary reasons.

The Reds were understood to be keen to sell Sakho during the summer transfer window, but the France international failed to secure a move away and is yet to feature for the first team this season.

Squawka now reports that Liverpool are willing to subsidise 50% of his wages in order to get him off their books in January, with a loan move the most likely outcome.

Stoke City are understood to be interested in the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, while a number of clubs in France are reportedly monitoring the situation.

Sakho made 34 appearances for the club last term, but now finds himself behind Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Joe Gomez and Lucas Leiva in the pecking order at Anfield.
