Liverpool are planning to offer their 30-year-old forward Roberto Firmino a new contract before the summer, according to a report.

Liverpool have made plans to offer their 30-year-old forward Roberto Firmino a new contract before the summer, according to a report.

The Brazilian's contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning he could potentially leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2022-23 season, or discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January 2023.

However, according to Football Insider, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sees Firmino as a vital part of his squad, and is keen to tie him down to a contract extension before June.

Firmino's future has been in doubt recently due to the lack of time left on his current deal, as well as the emerging importance of Diogo Jota in Liverpool's forward line alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

There were further doubts about how Firmino's playing time this season would also be affected by the arrival of Luis Diaz from Porto in the January transfer window.

However, Firmino started alongside Jota and Diaz at Anfield on Thursday evening, as Liverpool saw off Leicester City by a 2-0 scoreline.

Following that appearance, the former Hoffenheim forward has made 314 appearances for Liverpool following his arrival from Germany, scoring 94 goals and supplying 73 assists.
