Liverpool are believed to have not been interested in bringing former midfielder Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona this summer.

Liverpool were reportedly never interested in bringing former midfielder Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona this summer.

The 27-year-old joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan yesterday, a move that will see the German giants pay an £8m loan fee and cover his £250,000-a-week wage bill with a view to making the deal permanent next year for £110m.

Several other clubs were linked with the midfielder throughout the summer, including French champions PSG and the Reds, from whom he joined Barcelona for £148m in January 2018.

However, The Athletic reports that Jurgen Klopp's side were not interested in bringing the Brazilian international back to Anfield, largely because of the cost involved.

It is believed that a move for Coutinho would have cost Liverpool at least £21m in loan fees and wages, something the club deemed unnecessary when the former Inter Milan star was not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
