Liverpool made an offer for Rodrygo Goes before the teenager completed a move to Real Madrid, claims former Santos manager Elano.

Liverpool made an offer for Brazilian teenager Rodrygo Goes before he completed a move to Real Madrid, according to former Santos manager Elano.

Madrid reached an agreement with Santos in the summer of 2018, and the 18-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu during the recent transfer window.

Rodrygo has been in excellent form for Los Blancos this season, scoring five times in just six appearances, including a hat-trick against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

However, according to former Manchester City midfielder Elano, who handed the youngster his first-team debut, Liverpool had the opportunity to sign him.

"There was strong interest from Liverpool for the kid when he was in the youth teams and they wanted him, but the offer was low," Elano told ESPN. "Then the offer arrived from Real Madrid."

The youngster scored 10 times in 49 outings for Santos before arriving in the Spanish capital.
