Liverpool 'make informal contact with Sporting Lisbon's Pedro Goncalves'

Liverpool are reportedly keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon attacker Pedro Goncalves after making informal contact with the Portuguese giants in January.

Liverpool have reportedly already made informal contact with Sporting Lisbon attacker Pedro Goncalves over a possible deal.

The 22-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Primeira Liga outfit this term and leads the way in the top scorer charts with 14 goals - six more than closest challengers Sergio Oliveira and Mehdi Taremi.

Liverpool have struggled to find the back of the net on their own patch recently despite boasting the formidable attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, so Jurgen Klopp is supposedly looking to bolster his options up top in the summer.

According to Record, Liverpool touched base with the Portuguese giants last month over a deal, and Goncalves remains firmly on the radar of the Premier League champions.

However, the report adds that the prolific attacker will not be leaving on the cheap, as he possesses a €60m (£52.6m) release clause in his current Sporting contract, which expires in 2025.

Liverpool's reluctance to splash the cash in the transfer market was recently criticised by former manager Graeme Souness after they were thrashed 4-1 by Manchester City on Sunday evening.
