Rickie Lambert passes Liverpool medical

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert passes his medical with Liverpool ahead of his £4m move to Anfield.

Rickie Lambert has passed his medical at Liverpool and is expected to be confirmed as the club's first summer signing on Monday.

The Southampton striker arrived on Merseyside to undergo the medical earlier today, and revealed that it "went well" ahead of his reported £4m plus add-ons move.

The 32-year-old is expected to sign a two-year deal with the club before the transfer is confirmed on Monday, a day after he is due to fly out to Miami with England's World Cup squad.

The move sees Lambert's career come full circle, having spent five years as a youth player at Anfield before spells with Blackpool, Macclesfield, Stockport, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers.

He played a large part in Southampton's ascent up the league ladder and has proved himself at the highest level, scoring 14 goals in 39 matches last season while also earning an international call-up.

Lambert was an unused sub in England's 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley last night but is expected to keep his place in the squad when Roy Hodgson announces his final 23-man party for Brazil.
