Liverpool confirm the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen on a five-year contract.

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen on a five-year contract.

The 18-year-old has become the Reds' third arrival of the summer transfer window, following Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez to Anfield ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Liverpool are understood to have paid an initial £4m to prise Ramsay away from Pittodrie, which could rise to a club-record Aberdeen sale of £6.5m with add-ons.

Ramsay will provide competition and backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, and Jurgen Klopp is expected to integrate the teenager into the first-team squad during pre-season.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com after penning his long-term contract at Anfield, Ramsay affirmed that signing for "the biggest club in the world" was a "dream come true" for the young defender.

"I'm just buzzing and it's a dream come true really to be here. It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it's a massive achievement and I'm looking forward to trying to show the fans what I've got," Ramsay said.

"Hopefully I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I've got and then we'll see what happens from there."

"It's special to be honest. I came down yesterday and had my medical today and my first look around the training ground, so it's been brilliant. The facilities are unbelievable and all the staff have already been so kind to me, and it's a pleasure to meet everyone.

"Because I did well at Aberdeen there was a lot of speculation, especially in January. But as soon as I heard the speculation from Liverpool, I just wanted to get it done. I knew that's the club I wanted to go to."

Ramsay progressed through the youth ranks at Aberdeen and leaves his boyhood club having scored one goal and providing nine assists in 39 games across all competitions.

The teenager was named the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season after setting up five goals in 24 Scottish Premiership appearances.

Ramsay also provided four assists in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, while he has earned three caps for the Scotland Under-21 side.

Ramsay's arrival could pave the way for Neco Williams to leave Liverpool in the current window, with the Wales international tipped to complete a permanent move to Fulham.
