Alberto Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia has claimed that the midfielder's future will be decided in the next week.
The 27-year-old has been in limbo following the close of the season, where he spent a year at AC Milan on loan from Liverpool following an unsuccessful brief spell at Anfield.
"We had a meeting with English executives but for the time being, nothing has emerged," Zavaglia told www.ilsussidiario.net. "We expect a response from Liverpool which should arrive within the week.
"There is absolutely no possibility that Aquilani can become a free agent in order to then decide what to do.
"I don't know if he wants to stay at Milan, we shall see. We just have to wait and see what happens and what Liverpool decides."
While Aquilani has previously not been part of Liverpool's plans, it is unclear whether new manager Brendan Rodgers will want to bring the Italian back to the club.
