Liverpool transfer roundup: Darwin Nunez deal agreed, Sadio Mane close to exit

Sports Mole rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news, including confirmation of Darwin Nunez's arrival from Benfica and an update on Sadio Mane's future.

Liverpool's focus for the summer transfer window so far has seen the Reds try to uncover the stars of tomorrow, with Fabio Carvalho already known to be joining the club from Fulham.

The Reds have also seemingly agreed a deal for Celtic's teenage sensation Ben Doak, but Jurgen Klopp is now confirmed to be welcoming one of the hottest properties on the European market to Merseyside in the coming days.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news, including updates on Darwin Nunez, Sadio Mane and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Benfica and Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez has caught the eye of Europe's heavyweight clubs after his goal-laden season in Portugal, but it is Liverpool who are now confirmed to be getting their man.

The Reds steered clear of the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United in the race for Nunez last week, and Benfica have now confirmed that the 22-year-old will move to Anfield in a deal that could fetch up to €100m (£85.4m).

"In the early morning hours of this Monday (0:44 am), Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nuñez, for the amount of 75 million euros," the statement read. "The agreement provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, so the global amount of the sale could reach the amount of 100 million euros."

Nunez's 2021-22 season saw him register 34 goals in 41 games across all tournaments for Benfica, including 26 strikes from 28 Primeira Liga outings and two goals against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Should Liverpool end up forking out the full €100m (£85.4m) for Nunez, it will smash the club's previous transfer record set by Virgil van Dijk's arrival from Southampton.

Sadio Mane edging closer to Bayern Munich move

Sadio Mane has seemingly decided that his time at Liverpool is up after a trophy-laden six-year spell, and the arrival of Nunez will likely give the 30-year-old an exit route.

Bayern Munich are thought to be at the head of the queue for Mane's signature, although Liverpool have already rejected two bids from the German champions for the Senegal international.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayern are making progress in their efforts to bring Mane to the club as Liverpool hold out for a reported fee of £42.5m.

Mane is expected to agree personal terms with Bayern Munich without issue, and Julian Nagelsmann's side are thought to be readying a fresh bid to Liverpool for his services.

Mane has scored 120 goals in 269 games for Liverpool over the past six seasons, and his deal is due to expire in just over 12 months' time.

Aston Villa join Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain race

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's time at Liverpool is widely expected to come to an end this summer, with the former Arsenal man falling right down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was left out of the squad entirely on nine occasions in the 2021-22 Premier League season, and Liverpool will attempt to garner a fee for the 28-year-old before he walks away for nothing in 2023.

Manchester United are thought to be planning a shock swoop for Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Football Insider now claims that Aston Villa have joined the battle for his signature.

A fee of £10m will supposedly be enough to prise Oxlade-Chamberlain away from Anfield, five years after Liverpool coughed up £34.2m to sign him from Arsenal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has registered 17 goals and 15 assists in 133 matches for Liverpool since 2017, but he has missed a further 74 games through injury or illness.
