Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has backed the decision of referee Martin Atkinson to book Liverpool striker Andy Carroll for diving earlier today.
England international Carroll took a tumble inside the area in the tenth minute at the Sports Direct Arena, having already rounded Krul.
However, referee Atkinson decided that the former Magpie was guilty of simulation and handed him a caution.
"He just went over, he dived, I never touched him," Krul told Sky Sports News.
"He was looking for a penalty, all strikers try to do that, but he didn't get it, the ref was at a good angle to see it."
Carroll's afternoon was ended when he was substituted by manager Kenny Dalglish. The striker then opted to storm straight to dressing room, rather than taking his place on the bench.
Newcastle went on to win the fixture 2-0.
