Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard will reportedly undergo shoulder surgery at the end of the season.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will reportedly undergo shoulder surgery at the end of the season.

The Reds midfielder has played every minute of every game for his club this campaign, but will have the procedure after the final game of the campaign against Queens Park Rangers on May 19, according to the Daily Mail.

The operation means that Gerrard will miss England internationals against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil, on May 29 and June 2 respectively.

The decision to go under the knife so early after the season has ended was made to ensure Gerrard is fully fit for next season, with a testimonial announced for August 3 against Greek side Olympiacos.

The England skipper has been capped 102 times for the Three Lions.
