Brendan Rodgers: 'Roberto Firmino will need time'

Brendan Rodgers warns Liverpool fans not to expect too much from Roberto Firmino too soon.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has warned that striker Roberto Firmino may take time to adjust to life in the Premier League following his £29m move from Hoffenheim.

The Brazil forward earned a big-money move last month after impressing for the Bundesliga outfit last season, netting 10 goals and bagging 12 assists in all competitions.

Given his price tag, it was suggested that the Reds' goalscoring burden now falls on the 23-year-old, but Rodgers says that Firmino need not feel under pressure to scale talismanic heights early on in his spell.

"He's a top-class player," he told the club's official website. "He's obviously played in Europe, so he understands and played in a very good league. Of course, there is no pressure.

"He'll come into the Premier League and Lucas [Leiva] knows as well as anyone as a fellow Brazilian that coming in, it just takes that little bit of time to adapt.

"He's got all the traits and the profile of what we would want as a player - he works very, very hard, he's a talented player and someone we feel can score goals for the team. I'm really excited and looking forward to him coming in."

Firmino signed a five-year deal with Liverpool.
