Brendan Rodgers disappointed by Southampton reception for Adam Lallana

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Adam Lallana should have received a better reception from the fans at former club Southampton.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his disappointment at the reception that Adam Lallana received at former club Southampton.

The midfielder, who joined the Reds for £25m in the summer, was roundly booed by the home fans at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday during Liverpool's 2-0 win.

However, Rodgers believes that Lallana should have been given a warmer welcome by the Southampton supporters due to his previous service at the club.

"Adam was the captain here for two years, gave incredible service to Southampton and I know for a fact he could have left here a number of times and didn't," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"To get the reception he got I thought was disappointing. I looked in the match programme and there was nothing relevant to his time here and all the time has been here since a boy.

"Then there's the likes of Rickie Lambert – great servants to here, incredible players that have got the club to where it is today. There was no mention of him, which I thought was sad."

Liverpool are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Besiktas to defend a 1-0 first-leg lead in the last 32 of the Europa League.
