Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that one of his "biggest regrets" is not signing Luis Suarez while he was in charge at Tottenham Hotspur.
The North London outfit had the chance to bring the Uruguayan to White Hart Lane from Ajax back in 2011, but the club ended their interest due to the price.
Suarez eventually signed for Liverpool and became the Premier League's top scorer last season with 31 goals before leaving for Barcelona.
Redknapp made the claims in his new book A Man Walks On To a Pitch, which is being serialised by the Daily Mail.
"One of the biggest regrets of my life in management is not taking Luis Suarez to Tottenham when we had the chance," said Redknapp. "'You've got to take him, Harry,' Ruud Gullit told me. 'He's fantastic."'
"Just when I was on the verge of taking the plunge, the price went up. In the end he was sold for £22.8m to Liverpool. We wouldn't have paid that."
Redknapp has also revealed that he was close to signing former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira in 2009.
