Dany Murphy: 'Brendan Rodgers deserves time'

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that manager Brendan Rodgers deserves more time to turn things around at Anfield.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged the club's owners to keep faith with manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers led the Reds to their most credible title challenge in the Premier League era last season as they missed out to Manchester City on the final day.

However, Rodgers's charges have struggled this term, and currently sit 10th in the table with just 21 points from 16 games, but Murphy thinks that the Northern Irishman should be allowed time to turn it around at Anfield.

He told talkSPORT: "I don't think they should [make a change]. I can't speak on behalf of the owners, but I think that would be crazy [to sack him].

"When things were going brilliantly last season, he wasn't getting carried away and he was humble, and I like that in Brendan. And, for me, he has earned the right to go through a bad spell."

"Ultimately, whoever is [buying the players], Brendan is going to be held responsible because they are the lads not performing on the pitch and some of those lads that came in need to do more for Brendan and stand up and be counted."

Liverpool travel to Championship leaders Bournemouth in the quarter-final of the League Cup on Wednesday.
