Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah beats Kevin De Bruyne to the Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year award.

Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year following his impressive maiden campaign with Liverpool.

The Egypt international has netted 43 goals in all competitions since arriving at Anfield from Roma in a £34m deal last summer.

Salah, who struggled for opportunities during his previous spell in English football with Chelsea, has netted 31 of his goals in the Premier League - a joint-record for a single campaign, with two games still left to play.

A week on from being crowned PFA Player of the Year, the 25-year-old becomes the 15th footballer of the Prem era to win both that award and the FWA Player of the Year gong in the same campaign.

Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez are the only previous Liverpool stars to win the prestigious honour, voted for by 400 football journalists based throughout Britain, and Salah is now the first African to do so.

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne was Salah's closest challenger for the accolade after chipping in with 12 goals and 19 assists in the Citizens' record-breaking campaign.
