Simon Mignolet: 'Liverpool now look a lot more solid'

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is happy with the defensive improvements made by his side since their 4-1 thrashing at Wembley Stadium two months ago.

Simon Mignolet has suggested that Liverpool's heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in October acted as a turning point in his side's campaign.

The Reds, criticised heavily for their defensive performances for large parts of the season, conceded four times in the opening hour at Wembley as Spurs cruised to victory.

Liverpool have since remained unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions, however, with seven clean sheets being kept in that time and 37 goals scored at the other end.

Mignolet puts this down to more of a collective effort to help out at the back, telling the club's official website: "Ever since the Tottenham game we had to change something because we were not happy with how we performed at Wembley.

"After that we looked at certain things to try and change them and then it's all about the togetherness in the squad. Everybody wants to help out and defend and that's the way we play, it's not about the back four or any individual who can change these kinds of things, it's more about the unity of the team and the way we press up high.

"We make sure that we don't give any counter-attacks away and don't give the opponent a chance to score any goals. So far that has been working very well and we have to keep doing that."

Liverpool have risen from ninth to their current standing of fourth since suffering defeat to Tottenham.
