Jurgen Klopp claims that only two or three of his Liverpool squad are safe from the impending overhaul expected to come at the club in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp has sent a warning to much of his Liverpool squad that their places at the club are not safe ahead of a summer rebuild at Anfield.

Liverpool have underachieved so far this season, having already exited all three cup competitions and being sat down in eighth ahead of their trip to Chelsea in the Premier League.

A humbling 4-1 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday was a third consecutive defeat for the Reds, with Klopp himself questioning his own position.

Speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of the clash with Chelsea, Klopp was quoted as saying only "two or three" players in the squad are safe from potentially getting the axe this summer, as their ageing squad is expected to be overhauled.

Klopp said: "We have opportunities to change and we have to change. We cannot just close our eyes and do the same again and again, this situation means the door is miles open for everybody to get into the team because there's only two or three that have pretty much their spot safe. The boys know that, that's one thing I've told them."

Klopp alluded to the fact that his past success is the only thing currently keeping him in a job, after Antonio Conte, Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers were all sacked in the last week.

"We know that it is not because of things we did this season, but because of things we did in the past. If this would be my first season, everybody knows I would be on holiday now," he added.

Liverpool are eight points adrift of the top four heading into their clash at Stamford Bridge, with league leaders Arsenal still to come at the weekend too.
