Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledges that goalkeeper Loris Karius was to blame for Manchester City's opening goal in his side's 4-3 win at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Loris Karius was at fault for Manchester City's first goal during this afternoon's thrilling contest at Anfield.

Karius was given a rare chance to impress in the Premier League ahead of Simon Mignolet for the visit of the Pep Guardiola's runaway leaders, but questions were raised over his role in City's equaliser shortly before half time as Leroy Sane beat him at the near post.

Liverpool went on to record an absorbing 4-3 victory over the previously-unbeaten City, and Klopp was eager to point out that Ederson also made a mistake which led to what ultimately proved to be the deciding goal at the other end.

Asked whether Karius was to blame for Sane's goal, Klopp told Sky Sports News: "Yes of course it's the corner where he was. You showed it to me. People always find the hair in the soup. Loris knows it.

"The Man City goalkeeper probably caused [Mohamed] Salah's goal but nobody will talk about that.

"We will see what it gives us for the rest of the season. To score four in the week after Phil Coutinho leaves the club is a big statement. To concede three goals was not too cool but as a manager if you play football like we do the rest will come. For tonight it's perfect - that's a fair result."

The victory ensures that Liverpool now sit third in the Premier League table, level on points with both Manchester United and Chelsea.
