Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp baffled by fixture scheduling

Jurgen Klopp is unsure why Liverpool are being made to play twice in the space of three days during the festive season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has once again criticised the Premier League for cramming in too many fixtures in a short space of time during the Christmas and New Year period.

The Reds boss hit out at the festive programme in his first two seasons in English football, suggesting that it also had a detrimental effect on England's hopes at major tournament finals.

Liverpool are due to face Leicester City at home on December 30 and then travel to Burnley two days later on New Year's Day, with neither fixture being televised.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp said: "Is there a reason why nobody plays in the midweek in the first week of January? They put us on December 30 and January 1 but they could easily play all the games on the 3rd or 4th of January. Is it not possible to play then?

"Is there another bonfire day or something like this? Why is it? Does anyone know? You can't watch our match against Burnley on television so do you need a holiday to watch it on Match of the Day?

"If it's on television, then OK, we signed the contract, we do it. But why can we not play on Tuesday? It's crazy. It's not just us. Burnley and all the other teams have to do the same. If you meet someone and they know why, maybe then can ring me."

Liverpool have four games between December 22 and January 1, as they also face Arsenal and Swansea City either side of Christmas Day.
