Jan Molby: 'Jurgen Klopp not a magician'

Jan Molby says that he is pleased with Jurgen Klopp's first month at Liverpool but implores the German to go back to his native country to look for January signings.

Former Liverpool star Jan Molby has insisted that the club's manager Jurgen Klopp "is not a magician", and says that the German should go back to Germany to look for signings in the January transfer window.

The Reds fell to their first defeat under the former Borussia Dortmund manager in the seventh match since he took over from Brendan Rodgers in October with a 2-1 reverse to Crystal Palace last weekend at Anfield.

Molby praised the job that Klopp has done in his first month at the club, but insisted that fans should not expect the going to be easy at all times under their new boss.

"A month into his Anfield reign I think that Jurgen Klopp has done a good job," Molby wrote in his Liverpool Echo column. "I would give him a seven out of 10 so far. I think that we now look like a team that could win more games and perhaps go on a run of wins.

"But there is a limit to how far you can take any football team and Jurgen Klopp is a football manager, not a magician. He will want to move forward with a group of players, some of whom are already at Anfield and some of whom are not here yet.

"I would like him to do business in the January window because there is everything to play for. For Klopp as a new manager he will instantly have identified something he can improve upon – he will be thinking 'we're missing this and I know where to go to get it'. For me there is nothing wrong if he wants to go back to Germany, Jurgen should work in the market he knows best."

Liverpool next face a trip to league leaders Manchester City on Saturday, November 21.
