Emile Heskey: 'Liverpool could win Premier League title this season'

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey says that Jurgen Klopp's side are looking "very good" to win the Premier League title this season.

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has backed Liverpool to put up a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Reds climbed to the top of the table courtesy of their 6-1 win over Watford on Sunday - a result which also saw them become the division's top goalscorers.

It is the first time that they have reached the summit since their title near-miss of 2014, and Heskey believes that they could go one better this time around.

"Liverpool have been a breath of fresh air. Going forward they look so fluid with [Philippe] Coutinho, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane. It's funny how they don't have an actual striker up there, they just have players who are all inter-changing. I wouldn't say it's a better team than with [Luis] Suarez, [Daniel] Sturridge and [Raheem] Sterling, but they play a very similar brand of football with a fluid front three," he told talkSPORT.

"They're playing some really exciting football and they'll probably go just as close, if not one step further, this season. They're looking very good to do it. If Klopp is looking to go into the transfer market, that's where he'll probably be looking at – defensively.

"At the moment it's like they're just looking to outscore teams, they know they're going to score goals. If their opponent scores two, they make sure they score four. A lot of teams will work from the back upwards; make sure everything is solid at the back first, and then you can work on everything going forward. Liverpool seem to be doing everything the other way around."

Liverpool have won 10 of their last 12 games in all competitions, drawing the other two.
