Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has heaped praise on Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool boss steered his side to the top of the Premier League table.
Gundogan played under Klopp during their time together at Borussia Dortmund, where the manager won two league titles and reached the final of the Champions League.
Gundogan admitted that Klopp is doing an "extremely good job" at Liverpool too, but hopes that he will not enjoy as much success at the expense of Man City.
"He's doing an extremely good job. We all know what an excellent manager he is and how successful he can be. He's fantastic and a great personality," he told sport1.de.
"Jurgen's doing an extremely good job and he also has the advantage of not being in Europe, meaning he gets a few extra days preparation time. But I hope we manage to ensure Jurgen is not so successful."
City currently sit two points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table.
