Fabinho: 'I know I have to earn starting place at Liverpool'

Midfielder Fabinho acknowledges that he will have to work hard in order to secure a place in Liverpool's starting lineup.

Midfielder Fabinho has acknowledged that he is under pressure to earn a place in Liverpool's starting lineup.

The Merseyside giants moved to sign Fabinho from Monaco at the start of the summer, but the Brazilian was absent through illness as Liverpool thrashed West Ham United in Sunday's Premier League opener at Anfield.

However, despite facing a battle to gain a starting role, Fabinho feels that fierce competition for places is good for the progression of the side.

The 24-year-old told Premier League Productions: "When I came to Liverpool I knew this competition would exist in midfield and I think it's really good for the team.

"If anything happens to a player, there's adequate cover. During pre-season I played alongside a variety of different players and we blended really well. So, overall, I think it's a good thing for the team."

Fabinho could potentially feature when Liverpool face Crystal Palace on Monday, August 20.
