Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright says that Liverpool 'are certain' to be involved in this season's Premier League title race with Manchester City.

Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has said that Liverpool 'are certain' to be involved in this season's Premier League title race, with the Reds being tipped to challenge champions Manchester City for the crown.

City opened their title defence with a 2-0 victory at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, while Liverpool started their 2018-19 campaign with a 4-0 win over West Ham United.

Wright has not tipped a "two-horse race" for the championship, but the former Gunners frontman does feel that Liverpool and City will be major players in the league this term.

"No one is daft enough to think the Premier League is a two-horse race one game into a nine-month season. It's the equivalent of calling the winner of the Grand National as they're still clearing the first fence," Wright told The Sun.

"But after seeing Manchester City and Liverpool in action this weekend, you can bank on one thing - however many are still in it come mid-May, those pair are certs to be involved. In just two weeks City have systematically dismantled Chelsea and Arsenal - two teams that will be up at the top end - with the minimum of fuss."

Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also started their new seasons with wins.
