Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly open to becoming the new Liverpool manager after Kenny Dalglish was sacked from the helm at Anfield.

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly keen on becoming Liverpool's new boss following the dismissal of Kenny Dalglish.

The Reds sacked the 61-year-old from his post yesterday after a dismal season in the Premier League.

The club's hierarchy have claimed that the search for the Scotsman's replacement is underway and it is understood that Liverpool's American owners made contact with Villas-Boas two weeks ago to determine the Portuguese coach's interest, according to The Independent.

Despite reports linking the 34-year-old with Roma, it is believed that Villas-Boas, who failed at Stamford Bridge after nine months in charge, is leaning towards the vacancy at Anfield.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez, Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers and former Reds coach Rafael Benitez are thought to be among the contenders for the position.
