Liverpool manager Arne Slot "receives apology" from Amazon Prime over false claims about referee interference

Amazon Prime reportedly issue an apology to Liverpool manager Arne Slot over false claims made towards manager during the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has reportedly received an apology by representatives at Amazon Prime, over claims he tried to enter the referee's dressing room during their 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

The Premier League encounter on Wednesday night saw Liverpool go into the interval 1-0 down following Alexander Isak's opener.

During their coverage at half time, it appeared as though presenter Dan Walker implied that Slot entered the dressing room in an attempt to influence the thoughts of referee Andy Madley.

That is against Premier League regulations and can lead to a sanction, but it has emerged that the claims were false.

Amazon issue apology to Slot

It is now believed that Slot merely spoke to Madley in the tunnel as the teams made their way back to the changing rooms for half time.

Liverpool went on to equalise shortly after the break, and then led 3-2 when Mohamed Salah hit a quick-fire double to turn the game around.

Fabian Schar's late equaliser meant Liverpool dropped points for just the third time this season though, ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.

The Times claim that Amazon swiftly offered an apology to Slot and to Liverpool, stating that it was a "production misunderstanding" that led to the claim being broadcast.

Furthermore, the report states that Liverpool have accepted the apology, and now consider the matter to be a thing of the past.

What next for Slot and Liverpool

Up next for Liverpool is a fixture that has caused many contentious issues to arise in recent years - the derby versus Everton.

Michael Oliver will be the man in charge at Goodison Park on Saturday, and will hope no decisions cause controversy in the media post-match.

Both clubs have felt aggrieved by decisions made by referees in the fixture over recent years, including the decision not to send Jordan Pickford off for a lunge on Virgil van Dijk which ended the defender's season in 2020-21.

Likewise, Everton felt hard done by that Ibrahima Konate was not sent off in the Anfield derby last season for two tactical fouls in the same game where Ashley Young was sent off for the same thing.
