Joe Allen 'wants to show worth to Liverpool'

Joe Allen is eager to prove his worth to Liverpool fans and hopes to put an end to the injury problems that have hampered his first two and a half seasons at Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is still hoping that he can show his full potential with an injury-free run in the side.

The Welsh international was one of Brendan Rodgers's first recruits at Anfield when he followed the Northern Irishman to Merseyside from Swansea City in the summer of 2012.

Despite struggling to cement a regular starting place for the Reds, Allen is confident that he can still show his best for Liverpool.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I'm confident that if I get the chance to have a full season without injuries than it will give the fans the best view of me.

"It's been a new thing for me, having these issues. I had two full seasons at Swansea where I probably played 80 or 90 games with no problems so it's been frustrating since I've joined Liverpool.

"Hopefully, I'll get my chance to show my best stuff and keep improving. That's the big thing. I'm not a youngster any more in football terms, but I've still got plenty of time to develop and get better. I'm looking forward to that challenge."

The Reds can move closer to the Champions League places when they face Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
